Breaking Free and Reclaiming Your Inner Fire with HeatherAsh Amara

with Shelly and Candice

SEASON 2 EPISODE 5

Welcome back, bright lights, to the Healers With Humor blog!

In this episode, we had the joy and honor of speaking with HeatherAsh Amara, author of Warrior Goddess Training, Wild, Willing, and Wise, and more. From childhood awakenings in India to sacred land stewardship in New Mexico, HeatherAsh opened up about the deepest moments of her path. Her message is clear: healing is an act of returning to yourself.

The Sacred Act of Choosing Yourself

When her marriage and teaching partnership ended, HeatherAsh made a brave decision not to abandon herself, even in the middle of heartbreak. That moment, she says, was a turning point: “I committed to my own healing. It was going to be messy. And it was.”

As she shares, so many of us abandon ourselves to keep the peace, meet expectations, or avoid pain. But the most sacred act we can offer is choosing ourselves, again and again.

Grief, Fire, and Singing to the Trees

In a particularly moving story, HeatherAsh recounts the loss of a beloved forest to wildfire. With tears in her eyes and an open heart, she turned to the land, asking, “What do I do?” The answer: “Sing to the trees. Be with us.”

This powerful story reminds us that nature is not separate from our healing, but part of it. Connection to the Earth, the elements, and all of life can anchor us during times of loss and change.

Healing with Community and Compassion

HeatherAsh emphasized the importance of finding community that honors growth, truth, and vulnerability. As she says, “Community is where the real healing begins.”

But community isn’t always perfect. Healing alongside others often brings up old triggers and that’s part of the process. With compassion and conscious support, we rewrite patterns and rewire connection.

Comparison and the Spiritual Inner Critic

A highlight of this episode is HeatherAsh’s insight into the “spiritual judge.” Even on the healing path, we can start comparing ourselves to others in subtle, damaging ways. Her advice: be honest with yourself, feel into your body, and gently redirect without shame.
